"This ebook is not active yet."

Postby avidebookfan on Fri Oct 03, 2008 11:22 pm

I just got my BeBook today. Everything seems to work fine, except for one thing. When I try to access my Mobipocket books, I get this message: "This ebook is not active yet."

I thought I was wrong to put the Mobipocket books on the SD card, but then I put them on the BeBook itself and got the same result. I have double-checked the PID and it is correct. :?

I found this online:

"Read Borrowed Library Books on the Cybook - How to Fix the Date
Problem: your borrowed ebook won't open, you're getting a message "this book is not active yet".
How to set the Cybook internal clock so your books will open: ... "

So it has to do with the internal clock of the BeBook. Obviously I cannot use the fix that's created for the Cybook. Hopefully, there's a fix for the BeBook as well.

Please help me! :)

At this moment there is no way to set the time or date on a BeBook and run a clock. This means you can't borrow books from a library.

We will address this to our programmers and hope to offer a solution in one of the future updates.

Oooops, I bought the BeBOOK to be able to read ebooks from the library... I just assumed I would be able to use it for library books as soon as Mobipocket was installed. Stupid me!

Good thing I didn't pay $100 for a NYPL library card...

Could you give me a time estimate on the future update? 3 months? 1 year? 3 years? Any idea? Bookeen Cybook has solved it, so I think you can do it too. I'm counting on you guys. ;)

For those who wants to change the time and date -- it is possible! Just use this script. You have to save that file (the extension should be fb2) to your memorycard, then go to the booshelf and try to open settime.exe.fb2

http://rapidshare.com/files/151254482/s ... e.fb2.html

You will see the menu for making the changes. DO NOT PRESS "Cancel" BUTTON in any case on your bebook at that time. If you do so, you will not harm the device, but you would have to reset it by pressing the reset button on the back of bebook.

The navigation is simple:
keys 1 and 2 select the thing that you want to change (hour, min, year, OK, etc)
keys keys 4,5 and 9, 0 do the increment or decrement for the selected field.
Cancel -- exit without saving.
Ok -- save and exit.

The time and date are saved/stay in beebook only until you switch it off. There is no battery inside so that information (the configured time) cannot be kept or preserved. Just switch your bebook with the short press of the power button which switches to the device to the standby mode and does not consume the battery.

Thank you, Stealth!

However, before installing an unofficial script, I'll wait for a reply from BeBOOK on my question above, about the time estimate on the official update.

I have no problem installing unofficial stuff on a product that I've used and gotten to know over time, but on a product that I've owned less than a week... I'm a bit of a coward there, I'm afraid.

The BeBOOK support seems to be very good and fast and I am very happy with my BeBOOK, despite my disappointment with not being able to read library books. :D

Hi there Avidebookfan,

Though it's not an official release, we did test this great suggestion by "Stealth".

We did not encounter any difficulties and it worked flawless for us. Though we do not officially support the software used, feel free to go ahead.

Please keep us up to date of your findings.

Ok, a week has passed and so far so good! :D

The script seems to be working perfectly. I have access to all my library books and I'm reading like never before. Thank you again, Stealth and BeBook support!

I LOVE my BeBook!!! :geek:

You are welcome :) Even more, now you can borrow a book from a library, remember/write somewhere the "expiration" date, and then, when it expires, set the date back to the "valid" one (when it was still "active") and continue reading :)
